When Jason Somnitz went out looking for a halter prospect, he had no idea where the “project horse” that he found was going to take him.
“I went to look at Snoop Dogge in December of his yearling year. Gary and Darlene Louks were kind enough to allow me to purchase him in January of his 2-year old year.”
Snoop Dogge was going to take a little TLC to get him to where Jason wanted him, but Jason was confident that he had the knowledge and the products to help him get there.
“I started showing Snoop Dogge soon after purchasing him, and he earned over 100 points in our first 3 months!” Jason continued to show Snoop Dogge in the open and the amateur and finished both of his AQHA Superiors in his 2 year old year.
While they were raking in the halter points, Jason was also breaking Snoop Dogge to ride. “I wanted to qualify him to show in the performance halter, and he was very capable of being a performance horse.” Jason focused primarily on the trail class and the showmanship class outside of his halter accomplishments.
Jason and Snoop Dogge’s list of accomplishments is far too long to list, but among them are Amateur and Open AQHA Champion, multiple All American Quarter Horse Congress Top 5’s, World Show top 10, Tom Powers Futurity Champion, and multiple circuit championships.
In 2023, Snoop Dogge was still gathering points by the handful as an eight year old. After many miles going down the road, he was still healthy and looking great, able to stand his own in any class. Jason realized the amount of points they had gathered and set a new goal. Jason and Snoop Dogge shattered a long held title, AQHA All Time High Point Earning Halter Horse AND All Time High Point Earning Performance Halter Horse! And he is over 2,015 points and STILL GOING!
